Cosmological Context

150 words

Enoch as lens, not subject

The incorporation of Enoch should not be understood primarily as an interest in angels,

demons, or apocalyptic speculation. Its principal function is **contextual**.

Enoch provides a window into the cosmological world surrounding Second Temple Judaism,

Jesus, early Jewish Christianity, and the earliest Christian imagination. It helps prevent

later theological categories from being projected backward onto the historical Jesus and

the earliest movement.

It answers:

> What kind of world did Jesus and the earliest disciples think they inhabited?

This becomes important later, when the project expands its interpretation of salvation,

evil, spiritual powers, and the cosmic dimensions of redemption.

**Note on standing:** Enochic material functions here as historical and cosmological

lens. It is not scripture in this project, and it supplies no curriculum content. The

curriculum's treatment of evil and spiritual danger is drawn from Scripture and the

formation tradition, not from Enoch.
