Architecture, Boundaries, and Cautions

The current architecture

As of the first release, the Way of Mercy and Truth is a developing ecosystem of

interconnected layers:

| # | Layer | Content |

|---|---|---|

| 1 | **Historical foundation** | James, Didache, Johannine literature, early Christian witnesses; Post-Priestly Torah and Q *(superseded — passed-through stage, not structural; see `WMT G02`)* |

| 2 | **Spiritual formation** | Aphrahat, Ephrem, Book of Steps, Macarian Homilies, Isaac of Nineveh |

| 3 | **Cosmological framework** | Second Temple Jewish cosmology, Enochic material, early Christian imagination |

| 4 | **Theoretical framework** | God, humanity, good and evil, Truth, Mercy, freedom, suffering, death, redemption, transformation, stewardship |

| 5 | **Praxis** | Daily discipleship, ethical development, habit formation, spiritual practice, relational transformation |

| 6 | **Developmental architecture** | The seven-stage path bridging beginning discipleship and mature transformation |

| 7 | **Narrative expression** | Christ, the Harrowing, the Titans, the Iapetids, cosmic redemption — *speculative* |

| 8 | **Applied ecosystem** | Stewardship, practical ethical formation, educational and discipleship resources |

**Only layers 5 and 6 are the trunk.** Layers 1–4 are the sourcing and reasoning behind

it; layer 7 is experimental; layer 8 is downstream application.

What WMT is not

Several negative definitions matter, because the project is easy to mistake for adjacent

things it is not. WMT is not:

- a new denomination

- an anti-Pauline theology

- an academic reconstruction of historical Christianity

- a collection of favorite ancient texts

- a mystical system detached from ethics

- an ethical system detached from spirituality

- a self-help program

- a mythology project

It incorporates elements of several of these fields without being reducible to any one.

Its distinguishing characteristic is **integration**.

The principle of integration

The genealogy can be read as the progressive reunification of things that had become

separated:

> History and faith. Ethics and spirituality. Truth and Mercy. Practice and doctrine.

> Outer conduct and inner transformation. Individual formation and social responsibility.

> Human discipleship and cosmic redemption.

The central wager is that these should not ultimately be divided, and that the mature

human being is one in whom they have become integrated.

Cautions for anyone developing this further

**Do not treat any single layer as the whole project.**

- The earliest sources should not be flattened into the Syriac tradition.

- The Syriac tradition should not replace the historical Jesus.

- Historical reconstruction should not eliminate spiritual interpretation.

- Spiritual interpretation should not override historical distinctions.

- The philosophical genealogy should not be confused with the historical genealogy.

- The Harrowing material should not be mistaken for the historical foundation.

- The seven stages should not be treated as arbitrary self-help stages.

- The stewardship ecosystem should not become detached from the principles it arose from.

- Post-Priestly Torah and Q should not be reintroduced as load-bearing without

deliberately reversing this decision — they are retained for historical honesty, not as

an ongoing commitment.

Maintain the genealogical distinctions while showing how the layers cooperate.

Development posture

This is a **living synthesis still under development**, and it should be described that

way rather than as a finished system.

The historical sources provide the genealogy. The philosophical search provides the

existential pressure. The early Christian witnesses provide the ethical core. John

provides interior depth. The Syriac tradition provides developmental spirituality. Enoch

provides cosmological context. The seven stages provide developmental architecture. Mercy

and Truth provide the governing polarity. Theory and Praxis provide systemic form.

The project moves:

> recovery → synthesis → formation → application → narrative embodiment → ecosystem

The curriculum in `trunk/` is the *formation* stage of that arc, completed and stable.

Everything after it is in progress.

The question underneath all of it

> If the earliest ethical teachings of Jesus, the formative wisdom of James and the

> Didache, the interior spirituality of John, the cosmological world of early Judaism and

> Christianity, and the transformative insights of the Syriac tradition were allowed to

> cooperate without erasing their historical differences, what kind of human being — and

> ultimately what kind of human community — could emerge?
